Renting primary residence as vacation rental?

My husband (a French citizen) is considering renting his home a week or month at a time during the winters. I have a house in Florida and we would spend 5 months a year there so the house here would sit empty (assuming we can figure it out financially - I’m trying to get income during the several months in the US since I can’t find work in France). Could we do this under the auto-entrepreneur scheme and could you tell me what taxes and fees we would be subject to, especially if we have to do it under another scheme other than auto-entrepreneur?
