Is the SPI (stage préalable à l’installation) course a compulsory requirement for gite owners

I registered as an Autoentrepreneur (now Microentrepreneur) in 2015 for 5520Z Hébergement touristique et autre hébergement de courte durée and was advised that the ‘Stage préalable à l’installation’ (SPI) course was not a requirement for gite owners. I was talking to someone today who has just taken the course and said it was now a requirement for all Micro-entrepreneurs. Could you please confirm if this is correct, as I have searched online but have not been able to answer this myself.
