How are URSAAF payments for professional liberal calculated?

Are URSSAF (Unions de Recouvrement des Cotisations de Sécurité Sociale et d’Allocations Familiales), payments for the financial year made throughout the year (pay as you go) or are they normally paid in arrears? If it is pay as you go how do they work it out?
