Auto-Entrepreneur and chomage?

I have a question regarding auto-entrepreneur status and droits du Chomage. I am British but have been living in France for 10 years, and always worked for French companies. I worked for my last company for 4 years, and was made redundant for economic reasons at the beginning of August. I am currently on a 4 month periode de conge de reclassement. I was paid my 2 month notice period at 100% and the next 2 months will be at 75% of my previous salary. In December I will receive my indemnite de licenciement (which is the legal minimum) and should then be entitled to claim chomage (assuming I haven’t yet found other work!)

I am currently seeing a consultation company (Altedia) who are advising me on setting up as an Entreprise Individuelle (freelance translator). However I am still confused as to the best way to proceed. Ideally I was hoping to start off claiming chomage in December and register in January as an auto-entrepreneur. Can I then continue to claim chomage (or job seeker’s allowance) for the first year? I don’t yet know whether I will be able to earn enough to live on with just my Entreprise Individuelle, but feel this is the perfect opportunity to try it out at no risk. Am I allowed to do this, or is there another option?
